Frequently asked questions

Straight answers about Smart ID cards, passports, certificates, Home Affairs bank branches and how we work.

Is IDSA Online part of Home Affairs?

No. IDSA Online (Pty) Ltd is a private professional service agency and is not affiliated with the Department of Home Affairs. We prepare and follow up applications on your behalf; Home Affairs makes every decision.

What can IDSA Online help me with?

We help with Smart ID cards (first IDs and replacements), adult, minor and emergency passports, visas for any country, and unabridged birth, marriage and death certificates.

Do I still need to go to Home Affairs or a bank in person?

Yes, for Smart ID cards and passports you must attend once in person so your photo and fingerprints can be captured. We book that appointment at a Home Affairs bank branch for you and make sure your documents are ready before you go.

Which banks offer Home Affairs services?

Selected branches of participating South African banks offer Smart ID and passport services. Some branches only serve their own clients, so we check which branch suits you before booking.

How long does an application take?

Home Affairs sets the processing time and we cannot shorten it. What we control is preparation: your application is checked before submission so it is not delayed by missing documents, and you hear from us at least every 3 working days.

How much does it cost?

We quote per application, because the work depends on the service and your situation. Send us your details on WhatsApp or through the contact form and we will give you a quote before you commit.

What documents do I need for a Smart ID card?

Usually your current ID or green ID book. A first-time applicant typically needs a birth certificate and a parent's or guardian's ID, and a lost or stolen ID needs a police statement. We confirm the exact list for your case.

Can you help with a passport for my child?

Yes. A minor's passport usually needs the child's unabridged birth certificate, both parents' IDs and both parents' consent. Use the Minor / Student application form and we will check everything before the appointment.

What is an unabridged birth certificate?

An unabridged birth certificate is the full version of the record, including both parents' details. It is commonly required for a child's passport, many visas, emigration and foreign citizenship applications.

Do you help with visas for any country?

Yes. We work from the current requirements of the embassy or visa centre for your destination, help you prepare the supporting documents and keep the application on track.

Can you guarantee my application will be approved?

No. Home Affairs and foreign embassies decide every application. We make sure your application is complete and correct before it is submitted, which removes the most common reasons for delays and rejections.

Is my personal information safe?

Yes. Your ID number and family details are used only for your application and are handled under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). See our Privacy Policy for details.

Where are you based?

We are based in Johannesburg, Gauteng. Message us on WhatsApp to check whether we can help with your application from where you are.

How will I know what is happening with my application?

One person at IDSA owns your file from start to finish, and you hear from them at least every 3 working days until your document is ready.

How do I get started?

Fill in the online application form (Adult / Seniors or Minor / Student), or tap the WhatsApp button and send us a message. We reply with what we need from you next. If you would rather talk it through first, book a consultation call.

Ready when you are.
